Today the Population of the world is approximately 5.8 Billion; and with Data communication advancing at a high pace, it is rather right to say that sharing of ideologies & interests between humans has become a very simple matter. In this modern world, Any news can spread throughout the world in just few hours; and more so spicy news spreads faster than the speed of sound (ironically). It is due to this phenomena that screening and analysis of news and information has become very vital since wrong information may lead to severe massacres and destruction througout the world. It can turn a king into pauper and a pauper into king. It can disgrace the most respected person and it may uplift the respect of people who are scourge and garbage of the society.

In the midst of this, one phenomena that emerged on a large scale is "Misconceptions". Irrespective of field, religion, region, country, language etc; Misconceptions have become prevalent amongst humans and based on which they mould their and others lives. This is one of the most dangeous phenomena, if not checked, may lead to destruction of peace and hence this world. In case of religious misconceptions; Islam is the only religion that has won maximum misconceptions throughout the world. This is the most misunderstood religion of the world. Due to this we have seen ever rising hatred amongst the humans and hence religious riots.

This is why Allah commands "O you who believe! if anyone (wicked person) comes to you with a news, ascertain the truth (before passing it), lest you might harm people in ignorance and become,over what you have done, regretful" [Holy Quran 49: 6]

We at PPC try our best to clear as many misconceptions as possible through public lectures, literature, internet and media. Following are some of the different kinds of misconceptions prevailing amongst people around the world about Islam:

Misconceptions about Islam
  1. What different is Islam from paganism? Muslims bow down and worship the Kabba just like how other people worship idols!
  2. Alcohol is prohibited in Islam? But why?
  3. Pig is considered as filthy by Muslims and they dont eat Pork? But why??
  4. If Islam was spread by sword, how can you call it a religion of peace?
  5. Most Muslims are Fundamentalists and Terrorists? why??
  6. Why do Muslims consume Non-vegg Food? Killing any living thing is wrong!
  7. "Muslims even torture the animals while slaugthering them, they call it the Zabiha method and they call that food as Halaal"!
  8. Science tell us that whatever one eats, it has an effect on one's behavior. This is the reason why Muslims are violent in nature because they consume Non-vegg food?
  9. If Islam is the best religion, why are many of the Muslims dishonest, unreliable, and involved in activities such as cheating, bribing, dealing in drugs, etc.?
  10. Why are non-Muslims not allowed in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah?
  11. "Islam allows having more than one wife! Polygamy is legal in Islam!"
  12. Why are Non Muslims constantly being abused by Muslims by calling them "Kafirs".
  13. Why are Muslims divided into sects / different schools of thought?
  14. All religions basically teach followers to do good deeds. Why should a person only follow Islam? Can he not follow any of the religions?
  15. "Life after death is just a man made tale, It has no reality!"

Misconceptions about the Holy Quran
  1. The present Qur'an was compiled by usman (r.a) and the originals were burnt by him; present qur'an is not the original revelation of God!

  2. Is it not true that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has copied the Qur’an from the Bible?

  3. Holy Qur'an says that Muslims should kill the kuffar wherever they find them? isn't this right??
  4. Does Islam believe in several gods because the Qur'an uses the word ‘We' when God speaks in the Qur'an?
  5. Muslims believe that certain verses of the Qur'an were abrogated by verses revealed later (Theory of abrogation). Does this imply that God made a mistake and later on corrected it?
  6. Why do certain Surahs in the Qur'an begin with Alif Laam Meem, Haa Meem, Yaa Seen . What is the significance of such terms or phrases?
  7. If Allah has sealed the hearts of the Kuffar i.e. non-Muslims, then why are they to be blamed for not accepting Islam?
  8. A particular verse of the Qur'an says that one day in the sight of Allah is equal to 1000 years. In another verse of the Qur'an it says that one day is equal to 50,000 years. Isn't the Qur'an contradicting itself?
  9. The Qur'an in several places says that Iblis was an angel, but in Surah Kahf it says that Iblis was a Jinn . Isn't this a contradiction in the Qur'an?
  10. According to Arun Shourie (A Critic of Islam) there is a mathematical error in the Qur'an. In chapter 4 verses 11 and 12 when you add up the different parts of inheritance given to the heirs, it is more than one. Therefore the author of the Qur'an does not know mathematics.
  11. The Qur'an says several times that Allah is most Merciful and Forgiving but also says many times that He gives severe punishment. Is He Forgiving or Revengeful?
  12. It is mentioned in your Qur’an that Mary was the sister of Aaron (pbuh). Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) who wrote the Qur’an did not know the difference between Miriam the sister of Aaron (pbuh) and Mary the Mother of Jesus (pbuh), the time span between both of them was about a thousand years
  13. Is it not true that your Qur’an mentions in Surah Maryam, Chapter 19 verse 33 that Jesus (pbuh) died and was resurrected?
  14. Does not your Qur’an mention that Jesus is Kalimatullah –"The Word of Allah (swt)", as well as Ruhullah – "The Spirit of Allah", indicating his Divinity?
  15. The Qur’an is not the Word of God but on the contrary the handiwork of Satan.

Misconceptions about Prophet Muhammed (Pbuh)
  1. Why Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) marry young aisha (ra)? Was it an act of paedophile or child abuser?
  2. Did Prophet Muhammad order 900 Jews to be killed?

Scientific Misconceptions related to Holy Quran
  1. Qur'an says that Allah has made the earth for you as a carpet. This gives an indication that the earth is flat. Does this not contradict established modern science?
  2. Sex of child in mothers womb can easily be detected using ultrasonography, however, Qur'an says that only Allah knows the sex of child in the womb of the mother. Isn't this contradiction?
  3. The Qur'an says that the heavens and the were earth created in 6 days but in Surah Fussilat it says it were created in 8 days. Isn't this a contradiction? it also says that the earth was created in 6 days and then later on the heavens were created in 2 days. Isn't this against the Big-Bang theory that the heavens and the earth were created simultaneously?
  4. The Qur'an mentions that man is created from sperm and in another place it mentions that man is created from dust. This is a contradiction!
  5. The Holy Qur'an SAYS that Allah is the Lord of two Easts and two Wests. How can you explain this verse of the Qur'an scientifically?
  6. The Qur'an says that Allah has put a seal on the hearts of the Kuffar and they will not believe. Science tells us today that the brain is responsible for understanding and believing and not the heart. Isn't the Qur'an contradicting Science?

Misconceptions about Women in Islam
  1. "Hijab suppresses and degrades woman" In Islam women are vieled and are forced to wear Hijab! why Hijab?
  2. Why is a woman's share of the inherited wealth only half that of a man in Islamic Shariah?
  3. Why are two witnesses who are women, equivalent to only one witness who is a man?
  4. "Islam is biased towards men in terms of Polygamy" if this is wrong then why doesnt Islam allow women to have more than one husband?
  5. According to the Qur'an when a man enters paradise, he will get hoor, i.e. beautiful maidens. What will a woman have when she enters paradise?

Misconceptions or Common Questions asked on Christianity
  1. The Christians’ concept of God is the Trinity i.e. The Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost, but these three are One. We Christians believe in one God, Who is a Triune God
  2. The concept of "Trinity" can be explained by giving the example that water can be present in three states, i.e. as solid e.g. ice, as liquid e.g. water and gas e.g. vapour, yet it is one and the same water.

  3. A person can also be a father, a brother and a businessman at the same time, but yet, he is one and the same person. Then why cannot God be "one in three" i.e. God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost?

  4. Jesus clearly claimed Divinity when he said in the Gospel, "I and my Father are one."

  5. Jesus (pbuh) indicated that he was God when he said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me".

  6. It is mentioned in the Gospel of John that "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God," proving without doubt that Jesus is God.

  7. Is it not mentioned in the Bible that Jesus is the " Begotten Son" of God thus making him God

  8. Jesus claimed divinity when he said, "I am Alpha and Omega".
